History was in the making when the Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association, through its Blind Cricket programme, played host to the Bishops Stortford College on Monday, April 7th at the Mindoo Phillip Park.
Although the match was affected by rain, the players on both sides did enjoy the initiative which was geared towards sensitizing the public on the subject of blind cricket. The encounter also allowed the local blind cricketers on the Windward Islands squad some practice before participating in this year’s West Indies Blind Cricket Tournament which recently took place in Trinidad & Tobago.
During the break between innings, the College made a presentation of £500 to the Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association (SLBWA) as their contribution to the sustainability of blind cricket in Saint Lucia. The Executive Director of the SLBWA thanked the College and expressed the hope that their gesture will have a positive impact on the Saint Lucian public which may result in a greater effort to support the development of blind cricket on the island.
The event which was a tremendous success was carried live on television. The group was later presented with a DVD copy of the event.
